Family farm Barnaki

Barnaki   ●   26.12.2018.

--- Farmer Zoltan Barnaki from Budakovce near Virovitica is one of the few who has a registered craft for canning production. He says that with Vitrex is the only one in Virovitica-Podravina County, and in Croatia there are only three.

It is a family business "Barnaki", which was launched in 1948. The work was moved from his knees to his knees, so even Zoltan did not want to leave, even though production was more uncertain as the cane imported and prices fell. "The old crafts must not leave and be forgotten - explains Zoltan's reasons for not solving family traditions. The site currently sits on 8.5 hectares and produces about 8,000 square meters per year. As a semi-finished product, they are usually sold in the vicinity of the city and in Zagreb, while its biggest buyer is from Korcula. - The job with the trench is good because that part of the year that a man can not do in field work can accomplish this. But I can not only risk kayaking, so I still have 40 hectares of other cultures. One summer is for some culture good, for another bad and can not live only with cane, at least not for now - says Zoltan.

In order to revive the old crafts with the trunk, he began to work the roofs of the cane in the old, old fashioned way, which implies that everything works manually. - Raw material should be prepared first - it will be cut in January and during spring. Following is a change in the quality, length and thickness of the trestle. Then the stack is reached - the beam per beam agrees, then stitches with wire and binds. The whole process from picking to stacking takes a long time because raw materials are made in one season and used in the second - explains Master Barnaki demonstrating our work. Zoltan believes that the roof and canopy work has a future, because such roofs are more beautiful than the plastic, and ecologically acceptable material creates natural shade, is impermeable, protects against radiation.

For a single roof (3 x 5 meters), it takes 15 working days if it works from 7am to 9pm in the evening and the price is from 6 to 7 thousand kuna. There is less work for the tents, and it will cost you 150 kuna. Although he has remained unsold and unused reeds, Zoltan is an optimist and does not want to give up on this job, as evidenced by the fact that he plans to build a larger warehouse. He believes his roofs will sooner or later become a hit. Author: G.GAZDEK Source: Glas Slavonije www.glas-slavonije.hr
